In a bill dated 31 October 2024, the Barnier government decided to abandon the proposed law aimed at reforming the class action regime in France.
Initiated by members of the French parliament in 2023, the bill was intended to strengthen and broaden the existing framework for class actions, first introduced into French law in 2014 with the Hamon Law.
By opting simply to implement the European directive on representative actions, the government has set aside several measures initially planned in the reform of class actions (“actions de groupe”), thus reducing the expected impact on businesses.
